Owen is 6 years old, which means that for over half a decade, my dining table has lacked balance. With seven people (parents, and five darling children) a rectangle table has been vexing. One person on each end, and then two people on one side, and three on the other side. It was maddening. Asymmetry. Ryan, being an architect, likes the appearance of things that aren't balanced because they get noticed, where as when objects appear symmetrical and all organized, people don't even pay attention to them. (That may or may not be what he said... in truth, I'm as interested in architecture as Ryan is in the ingredients of a pie... sometimes my my mind wanders...) Well, Saturday he found a listing for a beautiful, 5 foot wide round table with a "Clever Susan," (which is a way better name than a "Lazy Susan.") He met the seller, negotiated a better price (go Ryan!) and Preston, Calvin and Ryan hauled it home. Can this story get better, oh yes it can. The table is famous. It's an antique and was owned by the family that wrote Saturday's Warriors, and the voice talent (Leonardo) for the epic cartoon series, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Ryan has taken to talking like "Splinter" who is the teacher/martial arts instructor of the ninja turtles.
Our dining room is square, so a circle table is fab. No head, no tail, just perfect.
We normally don't set the table all nice for Saturday lunch, but we also don't normally get our dining dream table.
I couldn't be more jealous if I tried, I love round tables!! My dinning room is a tight rectangle we have no choice, blah! Love the table and the chairs!
