The Mission Home

Tonight for our Family Home Evening we made chocolate chip cookies with peanuts and delivered them to the LDS Mission home, which is directly across the street from us.  President and Sister Brown kindly invited us in and I got the chance to play the only song I know by memory on the piano; Count Your Many Blessings. We talked about the mission and Sister Brown played a cd of the mission theme song (not the mission impossible theme song, but a song titled "Till the Work is Done.") It was specifically written for the mission which was reorganized in 2010 and is now called the Scotland Ireland Mission. What a neat experience for the whole family.  I couldn't stop picturing my handsome father at 19,  serving in this very city in the 60's, who had also been in this same mission home.  Very cool.

This is one of the bathrooms in the mission house (which are called toilet rooms.) They all had bidets.  The kids got a brief explanation of what it is used for, and that just cracked Annie Joy up.

The crown moulding in the house is just gorgeous.  It is exactly what I want in my fantasy house.

The mission's motto is based on this replica plaque as seen by Pres. David O. McKay. The picture proves that we were there.

President David O McKay (a prophet of our church) was serving in Scotland as a missionary and he was struggling to find success and was having a hard time.  He came across this plaque, and it touched his heart, lit a fire and he made it the motto for his life. "What e'er thou art, act well thy part."Brilliant words to live by.
