Outsmarting the Menu

Our family has had a wonderful, relaxing Saturday. We helped clean our church building, then had donuts at our grocery store (which is what we always do after cleaning the church.)  I visited some friends, and then we went swimming.  Our kids most favorite thing to do at our local rec center is to spend money on snacks. Nachos was the preferred treat of the afternoon.  The kids just got allowance and so I told them that if they wanted snacks, they would have to buy treats with their own money. A few of mine bought nachos from the menu. Simon also went with nachos, but told me that he saved a buck on them. How?, I asked.  He said that they have tortilla chips, and cheese sauce listed separately, and when added up, they cost less than the listing for nachos (which is just chips and cheese sauce.) He's like a nacho genius. 10 points for Simon!

Nacho, nacho man. Simon Smith is a Nacho man.

Nachos for $2.50, or Chips for $1.00, and Cheese Sauce for $.50?  Well done, Simon!
A penny saved is a penny earned.

Donuts for breakfast. I always get a maple bar. They never disappoint.

We swam at the rec center, but the kids always play a little on the rock wall, too.  Annie could do this with a blindfold on.

Owen finally made it to the top today.
He was very pleased and we were impressed.

  1. Oh man what a radical thing to do Simon! Now you are thinking like a Howe, although my kids just pointed out they don't get allowance and that is being radical like a parent :)
