Blackford Hill

Summer is here, and we are trying to take advantage of it, even if it was a wee bit rainy.  We went to Blackford pond, which had a rubbish playground (three very small playground toys.) But the lake was fab, and had a variety of birds, and even some "ugly ducklings," aka baby swans.  After strolling around the lake, we hiked a fairly steep hill to the top.  We were greeted to a splendid view of  Edinburgh Castle and Arthur's Seat.  Annie claimed she could also see our house, but I'm not buying it.  Just for fun, Annie and I told the boys that we had seen a jackalope while climbing the peak, and they weren't buying it either.  The poor economy is affecting us all.

Mommy made good on her promise of breakfast in bed.  The upside was that it was delicious: bacon, pancakes, yogurt, applejuice, and even a rose on the tray.  The downside was that Ryan went running before breakfast was ready, which meant he was sort of banished to the bedroom to eat his meal, so that he could eat it in bed, as the bet very clearly won him: Breakfast in Bed.

Calvin trying to sneak up on a duck to pet it.  His plain didn't work.

My three boys waddling like ducks, just for fun.

Annie and Owen are BFF's. While walking up the hill, Owen asked us to wait for Annie because he didn't want her to be left behind.

The top of Blackford Hill.  Edinburgh Castle is the bump on the horizon on the left.  Arthur's Seat is the bump on the horizon on the right.

Owen was worried that he would tumble down the steep hill whilst walking back to the car.  Annie grabbed his arm with a vice grip and guided him to flatter ground. BFF's.
