Potato Tragedy

Last night we had chicken pot pie for dinner, a meal my kids absolutely love.  They also love to have fluffy, delicious mashed potatoes with their pie, which I fully support.  So I peeled and diced the potatoes. I boiled them in salt water. I strained them and hand pressed them through a strainer sifter (a cooking school trick to a light, fluffy mash.) I returned them to the empty warmed pot and folded them in melted warm butter, then I added the heavy cream... the spoiled, rotten, not expired but clearly rancid heavy cream...and ruined the mash. Tragic.

I made spudnuts for dessert, potato doughnuts. They turned out fine.
But I could still taste the sadness over ruined mashed potatoes.
