Dear Friends and Family,

After an entire month of living in transition (lots of driving, getting to know my grandpa better, hanging out in the day with friends, renting our home, giving away our food, selling our cars, ditching our phones, visiting sunny AZ, and a pretty bad haircut and dye job) We have safely arrived in our new home for a year, Edinburgh Scotland.

Our journey took us from the Phoenix airport to LAX, then on to Heathrow in London, and finally arriving in the Edinburgh Airport.  Although I got a bad feeling when we arrived at the Phoenix airport when Owen asked "Are we finally in Scotland yet?" the overall travel went really well.  I especially enjoyed when Ryan got stopped by the LAX security for a pat down.  They told us that one of his bags showed traces of some chemical and so they needed to investigate further.  I naturally wondered if Ryan's master plan to fund the year in Scotland was going to be achieved by selling illegal drugs, but alas, he was cleared and we were able to continue our journey.  From our Az airport arrival to walking into our Edinburgh flat, the journey took 27 hours, 18 pieces of luggage (to start, but only 17 when we arrived... sorry Preston), 7 passengers, and will continue for 12 months.

Owen and our line-up of luggage in Mesa at Grandma and Grandpa's.

Annie, Mom, Dad and Owen on our flight to London.

Calvin, Preston and Simon minutes after we saw Conan O'brien
at the security check in the Heathrow Airport. (true)

We only have a few more things to do to get really settled in.  We need to find permanent housing, buy a car, obtain cell phones, open a Scottish bank account, locate our ward (congregation) which is determined by where we live (still unknown) and buy some clothes for P-dog.  It's clearly time to drink some hot cocoa.  Aside from being kicked out of the grocery store due to a fire alarm and potentially getting a ticket due to my really bad driving on the "other" (a.k.a. wrong) side of the road, today has been awesome!!!! 1 down, 364 days to go, roughly.

  1. So excited to read all these posts! Post as much as possible, I wish I would have written more when we were on our big 45 minute away from home adventure. Cant wait to see pictures! Remember we have Wallace, McDuffie, McArthur, McLucas and McGriggor blood, so if anyone has that last name they are family!!

  5. Cindee, I promise that I didn't steal the Silver trophy! Ryan told me that I couldn't even take all 5 pieces of my jewelry, because we were packing so tightly! No pearls for me here.

  6. What bad haircut and dye job?!?! I don't know what you're talking about, you were at the best salon in the town. Who else has had the opportunity to have two stylists at one time? It sounds like it was great fun but you survived, congrats! That was quite the feat. At least Preston can enjoy a new wardrobe right? :)
