Heaping haggis (a really popular phrase over here) this museum is cool. The National Museum of Scotland is housed in a lovely historic building. We were there for almost two hours and never made it out of the stuffed animal and universe sections. This is definitely a location that we will frequent, especially because it's free, my favorite price. It reminded me a great deal of the Smithsonian, except that other peoples taxes went to pay for this museum. There were stuffed lions, elephants, seals, cat families, birds, eels, and even a few stuffed narwals. I hopped on their animal scale and I weigh about as much as an emperor penguin. The stand out exhibit was the stuffed animals, frozen into mating positions. For real. Lot's of questions came from enquiring young minds. A few questions came from some older minds as well. I also enjoyed the skunk, tail up facing the crowd so that we could all get a good look at where that smelly spray comes from. It must be a Scottish thing to just lay it all out there. The other stand out was the Big Bang movie (not at all posed as a theory), that also brought about a bunch of questions regarding science evolution and Adam and Eve. Good thing I know everything about everything...
Owen's jacket is green because he likes the color, but mostly so that he is easy to spot. Very helpful in any tourist setting.
I always think it's funny to pose in front of a statue in the same position as the statue. Simon agrees. Doesn't this statue look like it belongs in the Scottish museum?
Stuffed cheetah, entertained kids.
Annie Smith in front of the Annie Smith jewelry shop. They gave her this cute little pink bag with her name on it. I wonder if she will be a shop owner some day, or just like jewelry.
Wow, this is all very interesting, so many gems. I will have to start saying heaping haggis. The museum sounds so different than anything from the states. I think Annie should be their jewelry model, how cool to have a store with your name. Miss you guys tons!
ReplyDeleteHeaping Haggis isn't really a popular phrase, but it should be. They actually say "Oh my days!" a bunch, which is equally silly.
