Edinburgh Castle

Today we finally visited the giant castle at the center of the city, Edinburgh Castle.  We saw the crown jewels, we heard, saw, and felt the canon go off at exactly 13:00, and we saw a bit of a sword show at the great hall, and even arrived at our destination by bus. How very local of us.  On our way home, we grabbed some pastries at a bakery based on Preston's recomendation. Not bad.  The treat for the night was the random fireworks show that could be seen from our kitchen window.  The view rivaled half court-front center at a Jazz game, and the show itself rivaled any big city 4th of July display.  Very fun, especially since we were warm and cozy indoors. Today was sunny but very chilly, 32 F, 93% humidity, dang!

Rations for the prisoners at the castle.  Hard to read, but Americans got only 2/3 of the bread ration because they were officially regarded as pirates.

Calvin and Simon pretending to be prisoners. Precious.

Romance in the Great Hall. I'm bundled up, not fat.

Calvin posing by this cool sword also in the Great Hall of the castle.

Preston posing in front of cool pikes.

Annie and Owen posing in front of armor.

Trying to get everyone to pose in front of the castle.

Actually getting everyone to pose in front of the castle.

  1. Of course you are not fat you can clearly tell by how thin your face and neck look! Could Owen be any cuter?!

  2. Sweet castle! Were the fireworks for Guy Fawkes day? If so, go burn stuff!

    1. Okay, now the ritual makes some sense. They are indeed celebrating Guy Fawkes day. We should go burn something, maybe my bra.

  3. We visited this fortress-like castle on a hill with Collin. It is impressive and formidable, certainly not inviting. Like you, we were cold, answering the question as to why the fireplaces were so huge. Perhaps the Guy Fawkes day bonfires and fireworks traditions continue just to keep Scots warm! Thankfully you have a warm and inviting Scotland home as refuge. During this month of thanksgiving, I am so grateful for central heat, generous food rations, and cute-as-can-be grandchildren.
