A Sunday to be Remembered

Of all the reasons we were excited to live in Scotland, sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ with others was probably at the top of our list.  Today my family was lucky enough to participate in the baptism services of a rockstar individual, Ms. Jade Harriet.  The seventeen year old discovered the Mormon church by watching some vlogs that a Mormon family posted.  She then looked up Mormons on the internet, clicked on the meeting house locator, and has been attending church ever since.  The sister missionaries have been teaching her for about a month. I got to know Jade by working with her in Young Women's. My family got to know Jade by having a missionary discussion/dinner in our home.  Jade did as they instructed:  read the Book of Mormon, prayed to know if the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints was in fact God's church on the earth.  She attended church and felt the Holy Ghost.  She got her answer. Jade Harriet began her journey back to Heavenly Father today, by following the example that Jesus Christ set 2000 years ago and entered into the covenant of baptism.  Ryan was blessed to actually perform the baptism.  Preston said the opening prayer.  And I gave a talk on faith and repentance.  Jade was beaming, beautiful, happy, and at peace, and I am so excited to see where Heavenly Father will lead this bright, honest, lovely young woman.  Baptisms rock!

To all my Christian friends, I am so grateful that we can celebrate the life and resurrection of Jesus Christ together.  If you have ever wondered what Mormons believe, or how we might differ from other Christian faiths, you can visit lds.org or mormon.org to find out more, and you can even schedule a lesson with the missionaries.  (you can also ask me anything, anytime :~)  Happy Sunday!

Jade and Ryan.

Lindsey and Jade. Aren't we adorable together?!

Just before the baptismal services.

A family shot with jade right after her baptism.  An absolute highlight of our stay here in Edinburgh.

What better way to end the day than to head over to a family in our ward for dinner.  Heather Thompson (a native of Edinburgh) now lives with her family in Italy. Every summer she runs a foreighn exchange program where she brings several Italian youth to Scotland.  Pictured are some of her exchange students, my kiddos, and her Dad (pictured center back) Jimmy Thompson.  We had a lovely meal of spaghetti bolognese, and trifle for dessert.  It was delightful.
